Just had my first ever taste of....
« on: November 25, 2013, 22:03 »
Pumpkin and Jerusalem artichoke, can't believe its taken all this time to try them.
pumpkin was vif etamps and had it both roasted and as mash- roasted was delicious, mash didn't drain it enough so was a bit watery will try steaming it next time.
JA was lovely roasted, nice nutty flavour, mashed tasted like mashed neeps  ??? - hope the after effects aren't too severe  :)

Try roasting the pumpkin in large slices, skin on, then scraping out the flesh to mash. Much drier and the least effort too  :D

and I have managed to get rid of our JAs at last. Didn't like either the taste or the texture enough to give them plot room. I can get the occasional ones from plot neighbours should I want any.

Bu pumpkins and squashes are a staple for us

PS Snowy that was norty

Wish you lived closer because I just discovered this year that I'd accidentally planted a big stand of them 3 years ago thinking they were coreopsis. I have 2 carrier bags full that I can't seem to give away  :(

Roast pumpkin does make delicious soup. In the summer I roasted a lot of my courgettes for soup and it gave it a lovely flavour
