I'm seriously thinking of trimming off the feathers from my girl's feet which are wet a lot of the time as they are always nipping across the lawn to raid the bird table then eat grass.......... 

Just ordered the Pekin book by Maragret Gregson (why haven't I done this before now)?  and she will advise on this no doubt - but-  any thoughts on this in the meantime?

Sorry nerdle I have no experience with this breed but I would think it would be uncomfortable for them to have stubbly feathers around their feet.  I'm also not sure if you would cause bleeding as you can when over trimming wing feathers, especially newly emerging feathers.  Have a read of THIS about wing clipping.

I found that Poppy's feathers could form a mud ball, but would wash in warm water.

I agree with ANBHUC I don't think it would be comfortable. If they are only getting wet that shouldn't be a problem

Well - Margaret Gregson's book is a total disspointment.  Can't beleive I paid £12 for it - will sell it asap.
I only really wanted to know about trimming foot feathers and ideal perch dimension - no mention of either.  If you want to breed and show then fine but she goes on and on about her garden shed and run set-up.......  I did have a go with a Pekin website but responses don't seem to happen like on this one.

Anyway - no trimming while I'm not really sure its OK.

The ideal perch dimensions are a bit ambiguous as not all chooks are the same size. 1.5 inches square but with rounded ends are what is usually quoted but you may need to adapt the size depending on the type of chooks you have. I don't know anything about Pekins in order that I could advise you.
