Sinew pullers are about £125 new.  Before he got his ones, Brian used a rake hung on the wall of his shed.

They've gone up even more now, but this is like the ones Brian uses.

A wooden handled claw hammer without the handle. drill a hole the size of the banging side shoulder height in a stout post (shed door frame) and this leaves the claw facing you to receive the chook foot.

You can then put the hammer head away till next time.

Have used this on gamebirds for ages . :) :)

Hello

What's a sinew puller (though I guess the clue is in the name) and more importantly why would I need one

(P.S. Just settled our first quartet of ex-bats into the coop so we officially are hen keepers now)  :D

Hi Stewart, only needed for preparing birds for cooking so your batts will be safe. :)
The sinews go boney when cooked and make the drumsticks hard to eat.
