Hello,
I'm new to the forums and new to allotments. In the last week I got my first small plot and I am slightly confused as to what to make of the "construction" at the far end of my plot. It is quite narrow, flagged floor, concrete and part brick dwarf wall with glass windows and a corrugated roof. Many of the windows are smashed, it isn't very tall and the layout inside is to me quite strange (but then I'm new to allotments and greenhouses) .... There is a tiny 1 foot wife path down the back end length of the building but then the rest of it is raised by about 2 foot, to create a large raised area (but this covers most of the area so not sure how you would arrange things on it as it is so wide with little room to stand up on it).
There is a picture I've attached of the outside and I will do my best to take a picture of the inside ASAP.
Are these type of buildings common on other allotments - seems to be some form of a hand built/bodged building!
I was told by the chairman today that I can do what I want in terms of restoration/reasonable modification or alternatively I can rip it down and put up a greenhouse or shed.
In terms of what I need - I'd like a small greenhouse area for plants but also a none glass/wood blocked in area for secure tool storage. I'm pretty good with building (built my loft conversion and a porch at home) so I'm tempted to remodel it. My wife however wants it pulled down.
In all honesty, it is not my greatest concern as I have plenty more to do BUT if I am going to rip it down, I may as well do it now and make tip runs while I tidy the rest of the plot.
Any help or advice appreciated,
Chris
