OK, so the majority of our plot has been cleared of weeds, old plants, and general debris, and has been dug over. Naturally some weeds and a fair bit of grass is popping up to see what's going on. As I understand it, I could cover such areas with weed suppressing fabric, or maybe plant green manure, or maybe a bit of both?
Also, after a lot of clearing and digging I'm looking forward to actually planting something! Broad beans perhaps, as suggested to me elsewhere by BobE? Peas? Or just leave it until the new year?
Your combined wisdom would be most appreciated. Just remember, I'm new to all this, so don't use too many big words!
Thanks.
In your situation - as I'm feeling - cover, what's left and utilize the rest, whilst you can. (Clear the covered bit as time allows before the growing season!)
To sow now, still can: winter lettuce, early(fast growing carrots), spinach, sorrel, chard, beetroot, fast cut and come salads, radish, winter radish, spring cabbage, whatever else.
Bulbs or plants you need now to plant: over-wintering brassica, winter onion, garlic, Jerusalem artichoke.
I forgot your location, if posted, over-wintering broad beans - Aquadulce Claudia is excellent - need sowing a bit later, October, generally...
Autumn sown peas I personally never had any joy with. March sown ones are much better here. It is not worth the waste of seed in my experience.
