I have a hen that suffers with Mycoplasma

she has had it since we got her last year

we have tried all forms of antibiotics and eye creams from the vets but to no avail

she seems to cope with it - it comes and goes more so in this hot weather and thankfully as all my birds are fully vaccinated no others show signs of infection

I wonder if any of you chicken keepers have any old wives tale remedies I might be able to try

I've been plagued with this horrible virus since I had my hens. It is usually introduced into the flock by an infected hen or by wild birds if they free range. Unfortunately, once a hen has it you won't get rid of it because it lies dormant and there are numerous ways it can be triggered - stress, warm damp weather etc. Tylan is okay if you want to eat the eggs, but i would advise Baytril as it's much stronger and not used so commonly with hens because of the egg withdrawal.

It can keep reoccuring. I had one and the rest of the flock were ok, but when I wanted to add to aged crew I culled her. She wasn't laying great eggs and I had not quarms about her going.
