Slightly bitter taste to my beetrootsMy

My beetroots have are growing very well and I harvested a few,but they taste slightly bitter !!

Any thoughts please ?

I could be wrong but i have never had bitter beetroot. I dont let mine get too big either.

Someone else may know better

Probably a watering problem, cos swede also gets bitter if it doesn't have enough water.

Interesting. I only watered twice a week during the heat wave and mine have been fine. I do take them quite small though. Haven't watered swede particularly - only celeriac so maybe I will now...

Mine taste lovely and I watered once  a week.  I didn't let them get too big.  Sorry not very helpful  :wub:

How are you cooking them?

Except to get the seed germinated why would you want to water beetroot. They put down a deep taproot to find water. If you water them continuously they just use the feeding roots near the surface. Then, when you stop watering, they struggle for a few days until they switch to getting water via the taproot.
