Mother hen starting to lay

Mother hen starting to lay

This I find very odd.  My Silkie - cross, Elanor, is raising five chicks which hatched out on 29 June.  When I checked her this evening before Shutting the pop hole, I found that she had layed an egg.  Has anyone experienced this before?

That is early, I have had one start laying at 6 weeks.  Try putting her on her own with some layers mixed to a mash with warm water for a while so she can get the nutrients she needs.  Best to do it out of ear shot of her chicks, once she has had a feed you can put her back with her chicks.

 :lol:  I think with the bad start to the year they are trying to make up for lost time and produce as many chicks as they can.
