Chicks perching
« on: July 29, 2013, 23:29 »
Hello
My little ones are about 9 weeks old and perching happily at night time.  My breeder suggested its not good as it will create a dent in their chest bone (whatever that is called).  They have a real branch from the woods and have found their favourite place on it so should be comfy.

Wonder if I should treat the branch for possible mites etc...?
One grandma and 4 baby Pekins.

These are quite old and I'm sure you can find later material, but they seem to suggest that by 9 weeks the "danger period" has passed. All point to diet and parentage as being the more important factors. They also were looking at sharp perches, not round ones. If they were my chicks, I'd leave them alone if they're happy on a round branch.
Mites are unlikely; you would know by now :).

How interesting!  ...and

 'erjimble on to those perches'.

Never heard that expression but instantly know what it means

They look so happy on their perches I don't want to change it so great!
