Treating worms in pullets
« on: July 28, 2013, 21:58 »
Evening all

I've just seen worms in my pullets poo and was wondering how to treat them.  Do I just use 1% Flubenvet like for the other hens?

I was also wondering if any one knows how long Flubenvet lasted for? I only have a few hens so I've still got quite a bit left from last time I wormed them, which was 6 months ago. Would you use it or replace it?

Thanks

You do need to use flubenvet. See what advice it gives on the packet as to how long it will last once opened. If no info try contacting Elanco who make it. How often you need to worm depends on your indivivual circumstances. EG someone with an acre to run a few birds on would not usually need to worm as often as someone who kept them confined and with no option to move to fresh ground. Stocking densities matter as well.

Hopefully someone will be along who can give more help :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

As Sassy said check the packaging of the flubenvet whether that be the powder or ready mixed pellets.  How old are your pullets?  They can get worms but they do shed some lining which can look like red worms when they are young.  Best to check their poo by putting it in a container and adding a little water to separate it.  You will then be able to inspect it properly to see if it is worms or not.   ;)
