Hot air balloon!
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:43 »
Wasnt it a lovely summers evening on Friday.  I'd only just looked at my 5 girls dustbathing in the garden, as i went to sit down with my pizza and glass of wine, to watch the 2nd half of Corrie...and then it started......bok bok bokking, all of the chickens going crazy, and so blummin loud!...i dashed outside wondering what on earth was upsetting them, (and panicking that we were having a visit from a fox!!)....it was a hot air balloon that had caused this great chaos...the balloon passed in a matter of minutes and my pizza went cold as i spent the next hour trying to quieten the girls down....in and amongst mouthfuls of mealworms they were still bellowing, and didnt stop until 9.30pm....now waiting for a complaint from the neighbours.  Thought I'd share this story on here, as i can tell by the yawns and blank looks from work colleagues that its just another one of my boring chicken stories.
Hope everyone enjoyed the lovely weekend sunshine.....my girls spent yesterday thoroughly enjoying dipping their heads into an old cat litter tray I'd filled with water and floated a few garden peas in.

It has been perfect weather for hot air ballooning, we saw around 8 on Saturday whilst out in the car.  There might have been a balloon festival on or perhaps a take off sight near Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Your girls will remember that they get treats when they make a fuss so you might have started some naughty behaviour now!!!   ::)

Not thought of a variation on apple bobbing for chickens!! Will have to try it out if only for the entertainment value!  :D

I have put one in for my girls, only one chicken interested so far the rest are watching closely. However the one bird keeps trying to get in the bowl.

Sweetcorn in the water works well too.....and if i ever float a few mealworms on top, Elkie and Fran will actually paddle!  At least it keeps their feet cool...

mine take no notice of too much, but do not like very low planes (neighbours and raf) and next door petrol mower!! I've given up shutting them up.

Very few things bother our chickens, but its funny if anything flies over while we have the turkeys, including planes that are only a silver speck in the sky, they stand with their heads sideways and look up at it with one eye!
