French beans in pots
« on: June 07, 2013, 23:38 »
I have a few dwarf French beans spare and would like to put them into pots for my daughter.
But how close can you space them in pots? How many could I put into a black supermarket pot? Or she may have pots that are bigger!
Planting in the ground is so much simpler!!
Any advice welcome.

I'd probably put 2-3 in an 8" pot; if the pot is smaller than about 6" then probably one per pot?

But if you feed and water them well, you may well be surprised at their yield.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Ooooh yes!  I cheated a couple of years ago and bought a small pot of dwarf beans that had about 3-4 plants in.  I put them all in a large pot (about 12" or so I think) and I couldn't keep up with them!  Fed us (family of three) and gave my Dad a meal for two every week throughout the summer.  Brilliant!

Think growing these in pots is the way to go! The 3 I planted in a 10" pot are going mad....as opposed to the ones in the ground on the allotment, which are still just 4" high after over 3 weeks in!!

Three in a ten inch florist's bucket gives a really good crop. Last year I grew some on very early in the greenhouse at home. (They were a variety called Speedy) Kept going for weeks, with the odd dose of tomato fertiliser

Thanks for your replies everyone, will try 3 in a black bucket if she doesn't have anything bigger.

Thanks for this thread, I've just sown a trayful of beans without thinking first where I am going to put them.  You have solved my problem.
