Tommy leaves
« on: June 06, 2013, 08:28 »
Hi

My tom leaves are starting to turn a mottled yellow colour and it's a little disconcerting.  Can anyone please let me know what this might be?

Plants are growing great and the first trusses are well and truly set.  There appears to be no infestation, well none that I can see.  All the plants are in the greenhouse and watered regularly.  I have just started adding the feed to their water on a weekly basis.  There are three plants to each grow bag and each plant is also in it's own pot.

Try a dose of Epsom Salts.

Cheers, I am feeling a tad bloated, but what about my Tomato plants?

    Sorry couldn't resist.

Cheers for the advice, but what is a "dose"  I don't want to overdo it.

Thanks. :)

My precise measure is to lob a tablespoon full in a watering can full.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Your photos do look like it's a  magnesium deficiency - epsom salts is magnesium and  it'll stimulate the production of chlorophyll

magnesium deficiency can sometimes be induced by excessive potassium levels in soil (so I just read..)

That's interesting. So, I guess the magnesium malaise could be induced by overfeeding with fertiliser. I had a similar mottled problem with my cucumbers that I have been nursing after mistakenly leaving them sitting overnight in a tray of liquefied chicken manure pellets.
