couple of better daylight pics of the pond frozen today, built some holes in, just above the waters surface so if and when it gets murky, the hose can be popped in, it then floods and refreshes the water.

when its really bad i can half empty it, tip it and then mop it out  :D
water the surrounding plants at the same time, and if it needs moving to another spot its light enough that i can move it on my own  :tongue2:  so everyones happy lol

full of good ideas me  . . . .  well, i get called full of summat  . . . . lol

your ducks look lovely. I have 4 myself (1 drake and 3 ducks) and I think they're great fun - very friendly and interested in everything that goes on.  They love it when I turn the compost heap and have eaten every slug in the garden.

The eggs are delicious too.

Great Pics dave. I have been offered some ducks next year and was initially keen . However one of the guys on the allotment had some but got rid as he said they created to much mess(mud).

I notice or think yours are on gravel is this right. Anyone got any advice. I have kept hens and want ducks but after what he said jurys out. Anyone recommend anything including books to read. I have a few months to make a duck house and run.
NOT ARF !

hello there, we've only got 3 so far and its not so much the ducks that are making a mess as us lol

the garden was extremely overgrown when my OH moved in and after a lot of thrashing, chopping and mowing we finally got the garden down to a 'controlled mess' lol.

i have since rotorvated it it several times as the ground was spongey, full of weed roots and all sorts and needed turning over before we could think about grassing it, so its been raked and partially levelled but the weathers put paid to doing any more on it so its on hold for now and yes, looking at the pics it looks messy and it is but the ducks love it, especially drinking out of the muddy puddles when they've got clean water and a pond to use lol  :?

we did put gravel down inside the run initially but you'd never guess now  . . .  i think wood chippings will be the next purchase to try and dry it all up but to be honest i think the only thing that'll solve it properly so we can do summat with it is a change in the weather . . . .

the ducks are ace by the way, so entertaining and funny its untrue ! got all 3 to go up to bed last night with just a few gestures and a talk lol
