Quite normal. They carry the true potato seed.

Potatoes are related to tomatoes so don't be too surprised!

VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE - potato "fruits" are poisonous - don't eat them or let anyone else eat them.

They`re just fruiting - a while back they had flowers on and this is the end result.

Have a good look at one and you can see the affinity with tomatoes - they look pretty much the same as small green toms if you slice them open. Not edible though.

Some cut flowers off so that the plant doesn`t waste energy growing fruit. Never bothered myself.

  the same thing happened to me a couple of days ago, I got quite a shock thought I had a tomato plant mixed in with them

Just to hammer it home potato's and tomato's are related and are part of the nightshade family.
As in Deadly Nightshade.

Just in case someone thinks potato's are OK, tomato's are OK, so maybe people are being a bit overcautious. The fruits that form from the flowers are not to be eaten.

Next time you get the chance to see any nightshade in flower take a look at the similarity of the flowers.
