is any one suffering with i think black leg on swift potatoes. i have 13 rows of various potatoes  between 2 plots from T morgan which are fine. The swift are another brand 1 row on each plot and both rows have plants that are black and gooey. Could the seed have been infected. sorry can,nt send pic.

i often get this with lady christl, not alot you can do apart from grow a resistant variety next year.
consult the variety database.

I grew Swift last year and lost some to this - but only on the Swift.

I lose a few plants each year to blackleg which is annoying as I only ever buy certified seed. It's a bit worse this year but after the appalling summer last year I'm sure more infected tubers have slipped through the net.

Some varieties are more resistant but I really love my Lady Christl.

thanks for replies, never had blackleg before, going to pull the 2 rows up and hope it has,nt got into the soil. read the link it was helpfull. will stick to T. Morgan from now on, only they did,nt have swift at local garden centre.
