Crabapple problem
« on: June 02, 2013, 09:04 »
Hello, I put in 4 different 8' tall crabapple trees in March, they looked very healthy and were in bloom in April and looked great, then the blooms stopped developing and the leaves have turned brown on the majority of all trees with just a few green and red leaves still looking healthy! What's happening? Will they recover and what can I do to help them? Thank you. Rosser

It's very possible the blossoms and leaves got frosted with the strange weather these days. This happens every now and then. They won't rebloom this year so watch for frost next spring and if possible cover the trees with fleece. New leaves will appear this year and giving each tree a feeding will help.

I personally use a rotted manure slurry and apply it before a rain so it works in quickly. Or something like gromore if you're more into fertilizers.
