Moving house
« on: May 05, 2013, 13:30 »
Hello,

We are moving house shortly, and have our last black rock to take with us.  We have a 15" x 10" x 10" 'Port a Pet' box which was fine when she and her sister were very young, but will it be big enough for a two hour journey for one fully grown bird?
Many thanks for any suggestions.

Best to try her in it for size, she should sit once she has got used to the carrier.  They are better without too much room so they don't get knocked about with the toing and froing of the journey.  The main thing will be ventilation and making sure she does not overheat.   ;)

Thank you.  She is a snug fit in the box, so we will have to take care that she does not overheat.  Perhaps I should look into putting together a slightly larger box, and hope to balance some space with not too much space.

She will need a little space around her so a cardboard box with a mesh lid would be fine so the heat can escape.

Thank you again.  I had thought a mesh top might be the way ahead, as it would allow some flow of air.

Keep a teal towel handy in case she is jumpy you can party cover the mesh which will calm her down.  Good luck with the move.   :)
