RASPBERRIES IN THE POTATOES
« on: April 30, 2013, 19:56 »
I have raspberry runners coming up in my potato beds. I did dig over the ground throughly before planting and I could swear I removed all of them but they are near the fruit frame Do I leave them to grow until pots dug up? Can I spot them with weedkiller or will it take it back to the mother plant ?

Cut them back as far as you can.

I find if I can pull them off the runner under the ground instead of cutting them, they re-sprout less often

This year mine have invaded the onion bed  ::)

I don't have the space to let my raspberries do what raspberries are wont to do, so 2 years ago I installed an 18" deep vertical barrier about 18" away from the row and up to now it has kept the would-be invaders out of the veg patch.

I used a double thickness piece of spare pond liner but something like corrugated plastic would probably be easier to install if you can find some of the appropriate width.

Meanwhile, you can only remove the suckers as best you can until you can dig the trespassing roots out properly.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
