Egg Help!!!
« on: April 21, 2013, 15:37 »
Hello all,

Haven't posted on here in a while, my new hens seem to be doing well had them since last August, so they have been through one of the harsh ish winters I can remember! And have more or less laid right the way through!

However my 2 Speckledy's have not laid within the last two days, the other four girls, are all still laying! Any advice why this might be? They look healthy and are eating and drinking, they were wormed around Christmas time!

Cheers

Have you checked their abdomens carefully for eggs?

Have they got access to the garden and have you checked under bushes.
Have they been having lots of treats, do they feel very heavy.

I have picked the birds up they feel normal! They haven't hid any  of the eggs as they have a run, which is checked daily! They do have handful of corn between 6 hens every day is that too much?

Can it be worms? I wormed them before Christmas? How would I know if that is the problem?

They may be due another worming. Are they still their typical healthy self e.g. Scratching ,eating, bright red combs?? If so they could just be taking a break. If they are looking and acting healthy  then I wouldnt think its worms but it cant help to be safe than sorry ;)

A luke warm bath to clean off the poo from their bottoms will stop it causing a build up and further problems.  They do like a bath, just gently towel dry and finish off with a hairdryer on a cool setting.  You can miss out the blow dry if it is a nice warm day.   ;)
