Is it vital to chit sweetcorn?
Ive just sown mine straight from the packet into loo rolls
Will they be ok?

It is not vital, it just gets them off to a good start and you know that all the seeds you sow are viable.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine took three days to chit, were planted in paper pots, and the first shoots appeared after another three days.

Your unchitted seed may take a little longer, most importantly they must be kept somewhere warm, 20C if possible.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

lol! Good advise. Too late for me though! I sowed mine in toilet rolls, three days later every pot had been dug and the seeds gone - all 40 of them! So I went over to Wilco's and got some fresh sweetcorn seeds yesterday. Will cover them with fleece or some kind of netting time. Wonder if I place the pots on the top most shelve in the poly will be of any help?

We have always been rubbish with sweetcorn so this year I brought a 100 seeds expecting most to fail, we tried chatting on damp paper towel and 93 took really well and are now growing very well in the cold frame.

Next problem is where to put 93 plants

I'm in Cardiff and just started potting the seeds in toilet rolls in the polytunnel. I won't be planting them out at least until the last frost i.e. 15th May. So third week should be fine. I'll cover with fleece if frost still threatens! Never know in this funny weather.

Chitted mine, as per advice on here and majority took.  Planted the shoots into toilet rolls or peat post and they are now sat on the windowsill growing away happily.  Two more weeks and the weather should be frost free for planting out?
