I suppose we get the same wind you get about an hour later, Mums!

Why not fly a kite up, and I'll catch the tail as it sails by...;0)

No, we really are going to get down there later today...(I've told business partners and they're none the wiser, as neither of them grow veg, and don't understand the anxiety, the nail-biting fear of failure, and the silly old jeans and pullovers we wear on The Patch)!

Apparently it's going to be 15 degrees in about 9 days!

Tropical....... O_o
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Putting a positive spin on the weather, atleast I'm not rushing to put stuff in too early. This time last year it was red hot and wonderful, so I got carried away and thought I could beat the system and get the delicate stuff off to a flyer, only for the weather to change and end up with a plot full of dead/shocked baby plants.

Having said that, if it is still like this in a fortnight then I'm going to look at how you can grow ice lollies.

Look it from the bright side. You have an allotment site in the UK.

Here in Finland we have snow cover from November to the beginning of April. Not a little bit snow, snow so deep you can't even visit your allotment in the winter. In fact it is all still covered nicely with snow at the moment.

If you are lucky you can sow something end of April.

Last year I put beetroots out on 30th of April. That was the very first thing I put in the cold soil.

I put some seedling out for an afternoon in the sun on my protected terras on the 22nd of April. I made a note about that: "Most seedling in the full sun. Let's hope they survive the afternoon".

I think I am a good 2 months behind. My plot's so sodden that even with this new-fangled sunshine we're having and the strong wind they can do a great impression of a swamp. A sulphurous one at that. I took this week off to dig, thinking that things would have picked up a little by now. Snow's forecast here for the end of the week again. Hope the second half of the month is better....and that the bees on our plot don't get too set back by the prolonged cold.

Really feel for farmers too - I can see the appeal of huge polytunnels at the moment.

Positive note on the weather forecast this morning, as there may be a return to average temps next weekend...

You gotta believe it...;0)

Yes, but they are also talking of wet weather in the next 10 days.

The soil is very cold (about 2 C at 4 inches down) so do we sow now and presume that it will warm up enough to germinate seeds, or do we wait for the soil to warm, in which case it might be too wet to sow.

Probably do some and some. First earlies perhaps and just one row of peas and carrots?
