Campanula Glomerata Superba from Seed
« on: March 18, 2013, 15:48 »
Have tried growing these last year and this year with very little sucess. Stratified them in freezer for 5 days.Spinkled seed ( looks like dust!!!) on surface of compost, thin covering of vermiculite, in propagator (20 deg. C) after four weeks a few seedlings start to show, obto window cill in conservatory, after seven weeks still just a couple of seedlings still showing (no more germinated) and growing very slowly. HELP   what am I doing wrong.

I think perennial campanulas are very difficult/slow to germinate and grow.

I grew C Takesimana and found more germinated  this year (the  2nd spring) when I'd forgotten all about them.  The few that germinated last year are only now small plants and might make planting into final places when it's a bit warmer  ::)

C glomerulata superba is usally grown from divisions rather than seed

This might be why you are finding this difficult --it is difficult

If you need a large number of plants, then buying one or two (which is not too expensive) and growing them on to divide may be helpful
