I dont know about anyone else but i am soooooo p*ssed off with this weather!!!!!!!

Anyway, last week i carefully planted some cauliflower seeds in trays and put them under fleece in the greenhouse.  Now we have snow and freezing temperatures.

Should I.....

1. Leave them as they might germinate once the weather warms up (if ever)!

2. Bring them in the house to get warm and germinate?

Thank you. :(

I suspect the extent to which people are pizza'd off depends on where they live - in my area there has been a bulk delivery of very off pizzas although others have clearly fared better (not much warmth about anywhere though.)

According to the seed germination chart cauliflower are unlikely to germinate at all at a soil temperature of 6C, at 10C they will take 3 weeks. Fleece in greenhouses can only help to make what little warmth is produced during the day last a bit longer - not much use if temperatures are consistently below germination temperature.

Both options would probably work, although the first is obviously riskier and would take longer.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Bring them in to germinate, then when ready prick out in individual pots and throw them back into the greenhouse till they are big enough, and the weather is good enough, to plant outside

I would leave them where they are. If you bring them into the warm and they germinate, what will you do with them. Too cold outside, too warm inside .

Problem is the evening temps are going to stay below 10 degrees for a while yet, and the daytime is barely getting above 5 degree's.

My concern is they will just rot?

Go 50/50, bring some indoors and keep some outdoors....some of them have to grow!

I went down to my unheated greenhouse today to check on seedlings.  It has snowed heavily here and we still have sub zero temps. My greenhouse windows are open quite a bit to stop condensation.  The brassica seedlings, all on the bench and not fleeced are fine.  I sowed a tray of lettuce 7th March and they've germinated in the past few days, again out on the bench and not fleeced.  Caulis are hardy so I wouldn't worry  :)

Due to a slight domestic hic up my tomatoe and veg seeds are now all in an unheated poly tunnel I have put them in a couple of clear stack and stor boxes with the lids on at night fingers crossed  ::)
