Container carrots

Tried to search but computer says no.

Container grown carrots.
I think I am resigned to the fact that my new allotment will be too stony, clayey and heavy for carrots until it has had loads of manure from previous crops in.  Hence in a couple of years.  So I have bought some plastic containers to grow them in instead.  Would it be ok if I used last years compost from the growbags that I grew runner beans and tomatoes in, and just put a bit of growmore in with it?  Trying to do it as cheap as possible but if I need to buy special container compost then I will, determined to have carrots this year.  What have you put in these containers to great effect?

Thank you. :D

You might find some useful info in here. You'll need to cover them as well - carrot fly can get anywhere, so I'm told!
