Value priced Bow Saw in Lidl
« on: March 04, 2013, 21:34 »
I went in tonight for another reason but ended up looking at their gardening range  :nowink:

Among other bargains, they had a large bow saw, with spare blade for £4.99.  I had been looking online and couldn't find anything £20.

I am not expecting it to last forever, but thought, if there is anyone like me who can't afford £20+, this might be an option.

I’m sorry, but, can somebody help me out with my arithmetic!!

If I wanted to purchase a cheap bow saw; one being priced at £4.99 and one being priced at £7.48.

Which one would be the cheapest?

I’m only asking.

The poster, I believe could not find anything on line for under £20. That's the way I read it.

I was giving another option.

Fair dos.

When I looked in January to do some coppicing, I could not find one under £20 anywhere (sorry DD - including my local B&Q too at the time, although I didn't check at branches further afield).

Mine includes a spare blade and has a lovely ickle handle too!

Now that the end of March is approaching and the ideal pruning period ends, I guess they are reducing stock now.  Having said that, I suspect there aren't stacks of stock at Lidl, and it isn't available everywhere, plus no doubt it will be bought and on sale for £20+ on ebay next week!

(Edited to make my comment more specfic)

It's not a seasonal reduction, I bought one a couple of years ago at that price.

It's not showing any signs of giving up despite having taken down a couple of trees that were about 9" diameter. It's very good quality.

End of March?

In retail terms, yes.  I don't work for Lidl, but have worked for other retailers.  If stock isn't shifting within its core merchandising period, they will start introducing regional reductions to shift stock for less markup, but to cover costs.

It is (traditionally) recommended that you don't cut coppice (Lady Day) - 25 March.  Not that it is restricted to this use of course.

Bet you're glad you asked now! :)
