Tried to start up today, fired for a second or two then stops. Nothing in manual under faults section so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stale mixture if not run dry at the end of last season

Try new fuel if you left the fuel in the tank from last season and maybe a new spark plug as well ...

Thanks, checked it over and it started so it was put to good use on the allotment today

Can't help OP but I had trouble with a 4-stroke Mantis today - would run for a few seconds then stop, and would be a * to start unless left for a while. In the end I took the air-filter out and then it ran okay, although low on power. I'm hoping a 20-minute run would have cleared any gunky fuel and it should be better, but I won't know until next time if it's improved.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a carb problem, but check the oil level first. If it's over filled or under filled that will cause problems.
Try not to be tempted to run the machine without the air filter or you could end up with a scrap machine......
