What bug is this?

Dug this up today, to me it doesn't look like a standard centrepede



only found the 1 in the area I dug today and gave it a good squish

I think it is just a centipede - a lot have pincer-type things.

Other than that it might have been the larvae of something???  ???

I think you'll find it is a May bug larvae

I'd go for ground beetle larva too, although they can be very difficult to identify (there are 300 different species of ground beetle just in the UK!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I stand corrected, husband has just told me it's a common ground beetle grub. Really good for the garden as they eat slugs and snails. Shame you squished it!
