Dug this up today, to me it doesn't look like a standard centrepede



only found the 1 in the area I dug today and gave it a good squish

I think it is just a centipede - a lot have pincer-type things.

Other than that it might have been the larvae of something???

It the grub of a beetle.

You have just squished a goodie

Looks like a ground beetle larvae to me

I think you'll find it is a May bug larvae

I'd go for ground beetle larva too, although they can be very difficult to identify (there are 300 different species of ground beetle just in the UK!)

A Rove beetle ?

I sense some serious Gurgling has been going on here!!   

Could be right about Rove beetle Mum, although astonishingly there are nearly a thousand species of those in the UK to choose from!

I stand corrected, husband has just told me it's a common ground beetle grub. Really good for the garden as they eat slugs and snails. Shame you squished it!
