hi could any 1 please tell me if DIATOMACEOUS powder is any good as someone has just recomended it to me and im a bit undecided cheers

Yes definitely, mix it with some water and apply to the interior of the coop to avoid red mite, you can also add some to the soil/sand where your girls dust bathe so it gets amongst their feathers

I agree.  Hemexsan is also the same stuff, but it used to be cheaper than diatom.  Don't know if it still is as we buy it in big bags which last us years!

I also sprinkle it in the nest boxes, and when made into the slurry that sue mentioned, paint it all over the perches.  Looks a bit ghostly when it dries, but it keeps the red mite off the perches!

As above; it's a necessity in a wooden coop. Buy a big bag and it lasts for ages. For prices check as you do not need food grade.
