What can I plant now?
« on: December 01, 2007, 19:29 »
So we have our plot, and our beds are dug and ready to go. We have some autumn variety onions and garlic to sow, but wondered if there is anything else? My hubby was hoping we could grow some potatos - I think its the Irish in him lol.
I asked our local garden centre who looked quite perplexed and took me to the seed section - not too helpful.
Any tips or advice greatly received as this is our first plot! - Loving every min though :)

Spuds next year. Order them now, then chit them in Feb and plant later. A whole world of wonder in store for you.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Cabbages, broccoli, chicory, winter lettuces, radishes, caulis now, beetroot, parsley, and probably a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't spring to mind right now

Peas and fave beans, if you can keep your fingers crossed.  You're a bit on the late side.

Spuds in Feb.  Chick peas after Christmas.

You are on a different climate, Contadino and I'm also not sure when it says plant it means plant, it might be sowing or just vague on that.

:?  Have you forgotten the British climate already ?   :D   It was 2degs C at my place today. Even weed seeds don't germinate at that temp.  8)

Broadbean seeds, but go for Aquadulce. They are less prone to blackfly when planted now.

Even in Middlesex, It is getting a bit late for it now, isn't it? Have you sown in December before?

I will be sowing some caulis to keep under glass around about now, I sow all year round cauli, keep them in the greehouse then transplant late feb/early march. Get a good early crop next year, garlic is in but thats about it.
