I use them for sunflowers and dahlias (you can get a cheaper equivalent now from Wilko but they are a tad smaller).  They do dry out if you let them but I've got on ok with them. At least they re-wet ok if you do let them get dry

I collect up the used plastic water cups at work and grow everything on in them.

I've not bought them since, so I guess that is no great recommendation

Indeed. :D

 Well they are quite pricy and I am really am quite tight fisted unless its something exciting like seeds or plants ;)

I'm also lucky to have a planted container supplier who sends stuff in packed round with black plastic 6 cell trays.  Some get squished, but lots are fine.  Quick wash and they are good to go and the magic words ............ free of charge  :D

I use jiffy 7's for rooting cuttings.

I sit them direct on a heated propagator tray (I have a Super 7 propagator I use).  I then put the whole tray in a large plastic bag to retain the heat.  I find you need to ensure they don't dry out and I remove them as soon as roots are visible.

I like to keep a small bag of them in case I run out of potting compost and need to take a cutting.  I personally don't find them as successful for seed sowing.

I ditto the thumbs down on Jiffy 7's. Used them years ago and never had luck with them. I find the large module packs superior. The garden centre where my sister works keeps them in stock and must clear them all out at season's end, so obviously others don't care for them either.
