I've grown alpine strawberries from seed in the autumn.  They germinated outside in the cold greenhouse and were potted on to spend the winter out there, before being planted in the spring.

They are very hardy plants, so don't need to be inside the house.  What growing conditions have you got to choose from?  Outside with no protection from the weather might be a bit harsh for them.  Have you got a greenhouse or cold frame they can move to?  They will need hardening off as well, so inside at night would be a good idea for a couple of weeks  :)

Yeah, they're quite hardy so I wouldnt worry too much. Just some protection from overnight dips in tempreature and frosts while they're still small.

Have they actually germinated yet?

As the seeds generally need a period of low tempreatures to activate. I always put strawberry seeds in the freezer for a few weeks before letting them defrost in the fridge before sowing them.

Good luck!

I had a very successful batch from seed - I just sowed them early on in the year in the cold greenhouse - in March I think - and potted them on a couple of times, then planted them outside.  I got fruit the first year, which was great.  They performed very well the following year and I'm hoping for the same this year.

Should be fine if you keep potting them on in the greenhouse =]
