Having trod a similar path myself, my number 1 bit of advice would be not to try or expect to do everything at once.  I started out thinking "Chickens in week 1, pigs in week 2, bees in week 3, etc.." but it's not worth rushing into things without preparing properly.  Of course that doesn't apply if you have so much money that you can buy in all the equipment you need (electric fences, automatic feeders, luxury livestock houses, etc)

Number 2 bit of advice would be to get advice on everything from neighbours.  You don't have to follow it, but I've found that even the simplest things are done differently in different areas.  This includes timings for planting things out, etc...

Number 3, you probably know already.  Machines are your livelihood, so look after them.

Number 4.  Keep on top of all your financial affairs (tax, NI, bank charges, cashflow, DEFRA docs, etc..)  Keep a record of everything you buy and sell.  UK tax law, for instance, is so ambiguous that you can get into shtuck at the drop of a hat.  Having complete records allows you to at least argue your case.

Number 5.  Have fun.  Even on the days you're hobbling around in the snow with a broken foot, when the stove won't light, and the eleccy's been cut off, and you're hungry, are an experience that you'll likely never regret.
