Topiary yew trees
« on: February 09, 2013, 09:54 »
Hi all,

I have recently planted a yew hedge in the front garden and I have two plants spare, I was thinking of maybe trying to shape them topiary style and put them either side of the door! The plants are only about 18" tall and are in plastic pots. I would be looking for an eventual height of around 3' maybe.

What size pot would I be looking for an how would I go about pruning?

I shall be using a gritty compost with manure mixed in I reckon?

Many thanks

You'd need quite a heavy pot (terracotta rather than plastic?) or planter to avoid them getting blown over ;)

Thanks, that's quite an interesting read, I think it might take a while especially with yew, but it would be a shame to compost them!

I better start looking for some pots!
