may be a silly question but how do you get seeds from your own crop ?

lets say carrots, parsnip  etc..... understand how potatoes work  but how do you save your seeds for the next year from certain veg

Most people don't bother with things like carrots and parsnips, but the way it works is that in the second season they start growing / sprouting again (if you haven't dug them up and eaten them, obviously!) and then run to seed.

However, if the variety has F1 in its name, the seed will not come true to type because it has two different 'parent' varieties.

I think the real seeds website has a lot of information on saving seed; might be worth a look
