Well, I had to say sorry to my girls this afternoon.  I found 2 nests in the JCB bucket with 20 eggs between them. :happy:

I wouldn't be that sorry.  Its still only 20 eggs from 60 hens.  Sounds like yours have the same shameless approach to freeloading as mine do

We had 11 rescue hens last February after the mink wiped out all of ours. The new hens were hybrids from a farm which was doing their annual replacement - their less fortunate sisters were destined for 'the factory'.

The new girls started to lay and have never stopped. One died recently but the remaining 10 regularly produce 5 or 6 eggs and the other day we got 8!!! No one can understand how prolific they are but they do get unlimited pellets plus some barley and a few hours free ranging. I would definitely recommend hybrids!
