Some more advice about walkin run
« on: November 25, 2012, 14:46 »
Hello pple. I have finally put the roof on the run but it has been raining last few days and the run is still flooded as its 6ft tall and with the wind it all comes in.
I have seen some correx sheets on ebay this is item number 260695330190
They r 2 mm thick to go on the sides, the question is r they good enough for winter freezing temperatures.

Regards

Mo

I don't think they would hold up with a good gust.
I have polytunnel sheeting from the local garden centre on mine, but have used blue tarpaulins from poundland as a temporary over winter before now.

They'll be screwd on to the wood or stapled. Gust shouldnt be a problem its the freezing temperature im thinking of.

Have a close look at what has been done on the walk in run in this picture.

We are thinking of doing something similar for ours.  We only have 2 sides that are really open to the elements but it looks like an ideal solution.   :)

That looks really good. I'v got corrugated sheets on top all 4 sides got mesh on and coop inside i also have 2 sides open and the wind blows all the rain in so need some sheets.

Correx are not suitable just got reply from the seller.

Well I can't sleep for the sound of the pouring rain.   >:(  So thought I would share my bright idea, amazing what pops into your mind when trying to get to sleep!  Going to buy some cheap shower curtains they are 180 cms x 180 cms and around £3.50 each.  Asda is probably my nearest and cheapest option and at that price it won't break the bank.

Now just need some ear plugs so I can get some sleep.   ::)

Usually equine suppliers as it is cheaper by the bale.  If you put your location on your profile someone may be able to tell you the best local supplier.

I have been using Nedz Bed Pro, it is dearer but more absorbant and lasts longer.  I can use it for my quail as well so saves having 2 different lots of bedding.

If doing the roof, angle it so the water can run off, add guttering and a water butt.
Polytunnel plastic was cheap and attached between the uprights and a bit of wood screwed on. Housing area dry. My roof is metal corrugated which I got when I originally took the birds from the man giving up his allotment.
Chooks have an outer run with door access as well as garden.
I put up a posting on Wendy's set upon show my set up section.

Hey Mo, try using tacks instead of screws or staples for the correx sheet as they will last longer. Also make a frame for the big sheets of correx so they cant flap around in the wind and tack the sheets to the frame. If you want to go overboard you could put some pound shop sealant between the sheet and the frame to add strength and stop rain being driven underneath. I meshed our roof and then made a corragated roof over the coop, i'll see if I can post up a pic.
Hope that helps :)
