Hi all,

I have been pruning my chilli and pepper plants back for overwintering. They all appear very healthy with plenty of good looking foliage but I;ve noticed some black markings on the stems of some of them. The plant above the blackening seems unaffected but was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is?

Not sure but I've had that on mine and not seen any side effects before. I always assumed it was just the plant becoming a bit woody.

Often peppers do have black markings where the stems branch.

Those brown marks look like botrytis to me, though  ......It wouldn't got into the stems much because they are hard at this time of year. If it was up to me I wouldn't try to overwinter those plants, just the ones without markings.
