Potting grit

Potting grit

I have access to crushed limestone, grit size , is there any reason why I shouldn't use it for potting purposes. Or should I head to the garden centre?
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg

Limestone is alkaline so unless the plants are alkaline-tolerant, I'd probably steer clear, particularly if it is a semi- or wholly- permanent planting.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
