I had some in a container one year and didn't bother to clear the container at season's end. I was happy to find next spring that they'd reseeded themselves and eventually flowered their heads off.

Mine were a similar colour to this.

That's good news. I would lke to grow other colours from seed next year so will save any seed pods I find.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I love 'em, but although I've had fab displays in previous years, I wasn't successful this year ... something to do with wet stuff falling from the sky perhaps!!   >:(   It won't deter me from growing them again next year, because we surely can't have another summer like this (can we??!!)   :(

Fingers crossed that you dont. Especially as portulacas prefer dry soils.

When you say window trough, will a garden trough work just as well? I realise they're quite similar but I didn't know if where you put it would make a difference (the garden troughs are quite large, a couple of them I got from Garden Larch. As for the salt winds, I don't believe it has much of an effect!

I think any container in full sun and dry conditions would be fine.

Exactly. Any container will work provided there's good drainage at the bottom.
