I should have thought that learning to visually identify blight was more important. And if the kit tells you that you've got blight what are you supposed to do?

If you have blight and the conditions are right for it then any spraying is only going to slow the disease spread and not stop it.

Personally I'd start praying for a hot dry summer next year.

Cut the tops off and leave the potatoes underground for 2 weeks. Then lift and store/use...at least you'll get some potatoes that way.

If you're not sure it's blight and you don't test for it - you may just be spreading it around, and it will definitely spread to the tubers underground if you just leave the tops to rot

solway, i thought it would be a good double check, especially on our large site. i will be quick with the spray when its time. By the way is it ever dry in your county

Dave, sometimes it is dry in Cumbria. I think it was 24th April this year 

Because I have a garden rather than an allotment I can keep a close eye on my tatties but I take your point about being on a large site where people may not be savvy with regard to blight.

"Like" button hit as I couldn't agree with you more!! Although I prefer a well aimed watering can with tepid water... missing all those weed seeds.
