I bought some lovely pansies and violas from a local supermarket and have them planted up in two hanging baskets - they are so cheerful to look at. When winter comes, should I cut them back so as to make them slumber over the X-word season, so they can rejuvenate in spring?

I thought the idea as that they should flower through the winter?  I am getting really confused with pansies and violas now, I think I had better start doing some serious research!

Just dead-head them and they should carry on till spring

Thanks mumofstig - will do, plus a small sprinkling of BFB in case the winter rains wash every bit of nutrient away.
