Blakey says that the weeds are already rearing their ugly head; s/he also refers to perennial weeds.

If you plant veggies into the ground now, you will then not be able to weed it thoroughly because of the veggies being in the way.

Far better to clear properly while the soil is workable and the weeds are not too bad.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

S/he says a nice border of dock as the previouse owners belongings have been removed.
Im assuming that means around where the owners shed (etc) was!
Also weeds are always popping up, doesn't mean they're pirenials, more likely to be anuals chancing their luck at getting a hold.

The only way to find out for sure is to ask plot neighbours for the recent history of the plot , but in the meantime i would cover it to stop it becomming overgrown.

thanks for all the advice.i have added my location now also.i popped down this morning to find the weeds are rearing there ugly head again and on closer inspection now the site has had the previous owners items removed i have a nice border of docs and a patch where the rain runs into and settles.the soil in the most part seems very nice but in areas left unplanted it is heavy clay.but at least i have plenty of time to plan and rectify these things.

Welcome!

The patch where the rian settles you could build a raised bed to get you over that, and for the rest of the plot cover up what your not going to work on yet and buy a good stainless steel hoe and hoe over everytime you visit - it will soon stay in control! Good Luck.

I agree with stompy - if the weeds have sprung up so quickly they are more likely to be pioneer plants than perrenials.  The problem with rotovating on soil with perennials is that you spread the problem even further.

I would say rather than picking out every piece of perennial weed, unless you love forking soil over, wait for them to sprout so you can identify them as perennials and just pull them up as they come. Any planted crops are unlikely to be in the way as the weeds will be weaker and easier to pull up around the crops.
