Where to get insecticidal soap?
« on: September 05, 2012, 06:59 »
So I've been advised insecticidal soap for the honeydew on my brassicas... no joy on eBay, Amazon seems to have something called Pink Sun which is far too expensive... and requires me to buy two separate bottles (take two bottles into the shower?!) I find I can make my own with liquid soap and water but how do I know what liquid soap is? Is it just my handwash in the bathroom or has that too many added chemicals?

Other things I see on the internet are a load of google shopping recommendations for sprays from pet shops, with a bargain £10 postage.

So... does anybody have a cheapo soap they can recommend before my brassicas snuff it? Or an idiot-proof method for making thy own?

Chairs all!

Try pet stores or horsey or agricultural outlets, either in store or online, plenty came up on my google search. Or watch YouTube for how to make it yourself. :)

Soft soap has disappeared for a while as the maker has been taken over by Thompson and Morgan I understand. It will probably be rebranded just as a cleaner same as they did with Armillatox

It was an organic product, very popular with chrysanth growers

The same product is available in agricultural and equestrian stores - for washing cows and horses.

I wonder why one minute a product can be organic and marvellous and then the next minute it's the spawn of Satan and has to be shunned   :nowink:

You can buy it singly on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Savona-Horticultural-Soft-Soap-250ml/dp/B000VPIJ2K

but it's the £3 postage that makes it expensive.

Pure soap flakes, no perfume (washing powder aisle in supermarket) is also safe to use 2oz to a gallon of warm water to dissolve.
The usual warning about these methods being illegal still applies, though!

CQ it's because no-one will pay to have the testing done in the Lab.

Not cheap but it dilutes down pretty good, 1 in 50 for most things and 1 in 100 for whitefly.

Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

Pure soap flakes, no perfume

Imagine trying "Lemon Breeze" scented soap flakes on your sprouts. I wonder what they would taste like - sprouts or lemons :)
