We're going away for 2 weeks in the first half of September.  I have some good dwarf green curly kale on the plot and I'd like to cut some leaves now and have it grow again so I can get more when we come back from holiday.  Do I take the outside leaves or the newest ones?  Should I leave or cut the very new tiny leaves in the middle at the top of the plant?

Is it the same with spinach? I have a lot of that - various types.  Some went to seed almost immediately, but there's a lot of good leafy spinach.

Happily the runner beans and dwarf French beans look as though they'll be ready about when we come back.

only cut the outside leaves on both the kale and spinach, if you cut out the centre ones you will get no more kale!

On the Kale, We always only take the lower outer leaves, and its not the fastest growing crop, so even if you dont take any now, it wont go over by the time you come back off holiday!

With the spinach as it grows faster (well mine does!) I would take a crop of the outer bigger leaves now and then you should have more when you get back!
