Invest in some Stalosan F.  It will get rid of the smell instantly, and it lasts a long time too.  ;)

Hi - mine is a wooden shed converted, it does smell a bit more when the weather gets hot, but to be fair I buy a bag of shavings from a local farm shop, it stands about 4ft high and is around £7 - I spread it on the floor and then depending on conditions clean it out between 4-7 days.  This may not be as practicle for you with an earth floor but the smell of shavings is pleasant.  I do not buy the very fine shavings as they are far too dusty.  Good luck and hope you enjoy yours as much as we have ours.

It is worse if the soil is wet, so a roof helps and gives them a dry area.

Agree with grinling, I have a walk in run and have covered it to reduce the smell. This combined with regular application of Stalosan works very well.

Just make sure they have some  shade as clear plastic might make the run very hot in sunny weather- just realised you have an aviary type run so if it's tall this might not be a problem.
