Eating blight affected spuds
« on: August 13, 2012, 22:12 »
What do you need to look out for when eating spuds that may be affected by blight? I've cut the haulms and left some in the ground and lifted some to eat straight away.

Some of them I've lifted are dark in places and I'm wondering how it may affect the taste even if I cut the dodgy bits out,

Cheers

the un-blighted bits are ok to eat and don't taste any different if you eat them up quickly.

Leave them a while and they'll all be rotten bleugh!

We have had a few that have a twang to them a sort of musty fermentation taste so any that have any signs I would ditch into the household rubbish bin not even the recycle bin

I agree with ilan: that once-smelt-never -forgotten odour seems to pervade the unrotted flesh and so I never try to eat any of the affected tuber at all
