No fruit on my trees again?
« on: July 31, 2012, 20:07 »
Hi folks! Two years in a row now and nothing on my trees. 2 bramleys, 1 howegate wonder, 2 eating apple (don't know what kind), 3 cherry, 1 plum.  The cherry s don't look good at all, very few leaves with black shrivelled ends. Before that I had a bumper crop on every one! what's going on? Regards Kev

Did you give them a feed after their rewarding harvest Kev?  Sometimes trees simply exhaust themselves with their harvest and it takes a couple of years for them to regain their energies.  However, I think many people on here will agree that this year is NOT a great year for tree fruit.

Out of my two pear trees, three cherry trees, two plum trees, two peach trees and four apple trees, I have a total of five apples showing, four cherries, 1 plum and six peaches!

The general consensus for the poor harvests seem to be a lack of pollinators during blossom time, high winds, cold temperatures and wet blossom causing the issues.

Personally, I will be giving them a good prune where necessary and a good mulch of wood ash and manure ready for next year.

My Plum tree is virtually naked of fruit- we had a really nasty couple of days of heavy rain just as it was finishing blossom, and all the flowers were washed off- so this year its getting plenty of food and a rest!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

It really has been a bad year for tree fruit. Of my 4 apples one has a decent crop, one has  a few fruit and the other two have none. I just picked 340g of cherries today but last year I got almost 4kg, the pear has nothing, one plum has nothing and the other has maybe 20 fruit.

There really isn't anything we can do when the weather has been so shi**y except hope that next year will be better.

A late frost killed all the blossom on my tree's, before that we had very little fruit until i started giving them a hard prune.

My 2 apples, plum, greengage and peach are all write offs this year.     Feed, prune and wait for next year is all we can do ... :( :(  Strawberries are a dead loss too.  Good job the currants and late raspberries are doing good things!   :)

We were the only house in our village with a tree full of apples and everyone was hoping for some of ours but over the last couple of weeks every apple has rotted and dropped off.  The early winds blew off so much blossom I thought I had pink grass!  ;)
