digging up the garden
« on: November 12, 2007, 12:06 »
I was just talking to muntjac and I realised I should probably put it in a new string to to re cap - I was wondering whether I should get what you guys are refering to as a rotamotor.  I think from what I can see from the pic (thanks Muntjac links) that they would be to big to bother with for my allotment - check out the picies and let me know what every one thinks I should use to dig up the beds after every season - do I stick to the old fashioned shovel and muscle or is there another option

I agree, Shovel and muscle I'm afraid. The Rotavator is too much hassel for those size beds. Plus it will make a mess of your lovely clean paths

It's possible to use a small rotovator, like a Mantis, on your beds,  but it would still throw dirt over the edges. Looks like you're stuck hand digging.

If it`s good soil in the beds you shouldn`t need to dig much anyway as the soil won`t be compacted, just a bit of a turn over when you add muck or compost, some say the worms will dig it in but our worms don`t seem to have read the books!

The bookworms are in the compost heap reading the shredded bills and newspaper!
