the lesions don't cross the veins of the leaf.   They do in late blight

Looks like late blight to me. Exactly as mumofstig says, the lesion crosses the veins.

If the hot weather continues it may not spread, or only slowly. If it comes damp again it will.

Keep an eye on it. If the size and number of lesions continues to increase and they are obvious in the crop you should be ready to cut the tops off and bag them up.

Do not be caught out by leaving it too long. Better taking the tops off a bit early and lose some yield than too late and lose the whole crop.

After a good look today - there are a few spots on mine - but they're going crispy in the sun/heat.
I've picked them off and will keep an eye on them. If it stays warm for a few weeks I might just get away with it. It's fingers crossed time for me!

I picked off a big handful of leaves with halo blight on at the weekend -- and I have sprayed now twice

(This weekend the third spray is due)

Lots of plot holders seem to have collapsing spud haulms now though, so fingers crossed after losing the whole main crop last year

Sunshineband, when you lost your whole main-crop, what did you do to try and recover the situation? I imagine you had little choice other than to leave the whole soggy mouldering crop in the ground after trying to rescue as many unblighted ones as possible. This is where I'd be if only it wasn't raining again

I dug up as many tubers as possible, and despite washing them carefully they rotted very quickly. (I had been away for a week and so missed early signs on leaves) We ended up with about 20 tubers only that were edible.

I cleared every volunteer I could in the Spring, not just breaking them off but digging up the tuber, however small.

This year, I have some blight resistant varieties as well as some favourites, am spraying every 10-14 days and have grown a lot more second earlies as these will be a decent size and I can dig them very soon - maybe at the weekend if I have to
